Abstract

The present work aims to bring together and synthesize the knowledge we have so far about the medieval and modern walls of Sant Martí d’Empúries. To this end, written as well as oral and photographic sources will be analysed, as well as, as it could not be otherwise, archaeological data. Archaeological data come mainly from three stages of research: the information collected by Emili Gandia in the early twentieth century, the excavations of Martín Almagro in 1962 and the recent excavation in the winter of 2021. This last excavation has allowed us to date the northern wall of the late fifteenth century.
