The strategic position of Roses and its use as a port of refuge have largely marked its history and most settlements have required good defences. In medieval times, this need is evident both in the conception of the monastery of Santa Maria as a walled complex, and in the town itself, which was also equipped with solid defenses. The study aims to deep into the shape and evolution of the medieval walled enclosures of Roses, analyzing the existing documentation and proposing some new interpretative hypotheses.
